I guess it might be like "I stayed in the room until the doctor arrived." "sit"指一个动作，“stay”指一个状态？

涉及until的用法:
  1. 用于肯定句时，意为“直到…为止”，主句谓语动词用延续性动词。
  2. 用于否定句时，not...until的意思是“直到…才”，主句谓语动词一般用短暂性动词。
所以sit可改为stay，或者改成was sitting也勉强可以
